How to tan your face

Self-tanning your face can be a great way to achieve a sun-kissed glow without exposing your skin to harmful UV rays. Here are some tips to help you achieve a flawless and natural-looking tan on your face.

Top Tips for a Healthy Glow

Exfoliate

Before applying self-tanner, it's important to exfoliate your skin to remove any dead skin cells. This will ensure that the self-tanner is applied evenly and doesn't cling to dry patches. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub or liquid exfoliation to gently buff your skin and leave it smooth and primed for your facial tanner.

Moisturise

Depending on the type of facial tanner you are applying, apply a lightweight moisturiser to your face before applying self-tanner. This will help to create a smooth and even base for the self-tanner to adhere to. Wait a few minutes for the moisturiser to fully absorb before applying the self-tanner.

Use a self-tanner formulated for the face

Make sure you use a self-tanner that is specifically designed for the face. These formulas tend to be lighter and less likely to clog pores. You can also look for self-tanners that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which can help to hydrate and plump the skin. At He-Shi we have formulated all of our tans to be used on both face and body, but we also have two tanners formulated specifically for the face, our Overnight Hyaluronic Tan Balm and H2O Glow Facial Mist.

Our Overnight Hyaluronic Tan Balm is a gradual facial tanner that can be used as part of your evening skincare routine, formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba protein and almond oil. This multi-tasking tan crafted for the face is a 3 in 1 that- tans, hydrates, and prevents signs of ageing. The cream is packed with potent anti-ageing ingredients, including Hyaluronic Acid, which gives you a hydrated and youthful appearance. Its beautiful gel-like texture can be blended effortlessly across the skin and absorbs quickly while providing a cooling effect leaving you with a beautiful golden glow the next day.

If you prefer a facial mist, our h2O Glow Facial Mist has also been formulated with Hyaluronic Acid and can be applied directly to clean skin, on top of skincare for a lighter glow or on top of make-up for a spritz and go application, allowing colour to develop over 6-8 hours. This clear mist won’t cause colour transfer or clog pores.

Apply lightly

When applying self-tanner to your face, use a light coat and work in small, circular motions. Be sure to blend the self-tanner into your hairline, jawline, and neck to avoid any harsh lines. You can apply the product gradually over a few nights to achieve your goal colour!

Top tip: Your ears can also benefit from a touch of self-tanner. Use a cotton swab or makeup brush to apply self-tanner to the tops and sides of your ears.

Wash your hands

After applying self-tanner to your face, wash your hands thoroughly to avoid staining your palms.
