Because of this strong belief, we have formulated all of our tanning products without alcohol. But why is an alcohol-free formula a good thing? Here's why:
Alcohol in tan will dry out your skin
One of the questions we get asked the most is "will He-Shi tan dry out my skin?" This question often comes from customers who have used tanning brands in the past that have caused their skin to look and feel dry. This dryness may have been caused by alcohol in the formulation. Alcohol is commonly known to strip and dry out your skin. He-Shi tan is well known for offering superior hydration which in part is because we do not use alcohol in our formulations (along with other amazing and super-hydrating ingredients!)
Alcohol in tan can cause itching and irritation
Itching is a natural body reaction when our skin is dry and because tans formulated with alcohol can cause your skin to become dry, it can cause your skin to become itchy. It goes without saying that itchy skin is uncomfortable but it can also lead to scratching causing your tan to come off more quickly
Your tan can become patchy
A fake tan that contains alcohol will cause your skin to dry out faster which in turn will make your tan fade unevenly and cause it to develop a patchy appearance. Our customers constantly praise the way in which He-Shi tan wears off evenly in the same way a natural tan would. After all, no one wants to have to deal with a patchy tan!
Alcohol in fake tan can cause acne breakouts
For acne sufferers, it is super important that you use an alcohol-free self-tan. Because the alcohol will dry out your skin, it will actually cause your skin to produce more oil to compensate for this. Increased oil production can lead to clogged pores and further breakouts.
